The Acolyte  Prayer

Be present to me, Lord Jesus and grant that I may faithfully and loyally serve you in love and that my service as acolyte today may be offered in your name to God’s glory.  Amen.

The Ministry of Acolyte offers a valuable contribution to the worship experience for ‘s St. Aidan’s parishioners and we welcome all those who are interested and capable of carrying out this role to join the St. Aidan’s Acolyte Guild.  Acolytes are part of the worship team – the clergy, choir and musicians, verger, Eucharistic ministers, readers and intercessors -- who together with the entire congregation join in worshiping God. Together we hear and receive God’s word and Sacraments.  Acolytes add dignity and help to bring order to the service.

By becoming an Acolyte, you are called to perform the duties of your office and assignments faithfully, reverently and seriously, as a personal commitment of your time and talent in the service of the Lord.  You are called to be willing, sincere, prompt, regular in attendance, alert to your duties, and reverent in worship.

The Acolyte Guild schedules approximately two to four training sessions throughout the liturgical year with special emphasis and training for those acolytes who will be serving at Christmas and Easter services or other significant liturgical events. In addition, private training can be arranged. All acolytes receive personal hands-on training in preparation to begin a ministry in the Acolyte Guild. The training and practice time will prepare you to serve as Torch Bearer, Candler, Altar Acolyte and Crucifer. Acolytes who have been serving at St. Aidan’s for two or more years and who can give you insights into the benefits and challenges of this valuable ministry will be on hand to assist with your training. You will be provided with a St. Aidan’s Customary for Acolytes and other training material and you will be placed on the rotating roster for serving as a St. Aidan’s acolyte immediately following this practice session.
